Dear Oprah,
I want to help... I want to "use my life" to help one of your guests!
My name is Kristin Huber and I am an artist. Six months ago, an artist friend (Zoë Kothe) & I started a small decorative painting business called "Brush of Class". We design & paint murals on walls, do custom stenciling, as well as faux finishing.
When we drafted our business plan 6 months ago, both Zoë and I were very adamant about using our talents to "give something back". Well, I'm happy to say that "Brush of Class" is doing well. However, amidst all of the hustle & bustle of everyday "stuff" it is very easy to lose sight of initial goals.
That is where your show comes in. Zoë & I work every day so we don't normally get a chance to watch your show. But on Monday Sept. 25th we were between appointments when your show was on. We were both so moved by the "Cops 'n Kids Reading Program" & were even more excited to see that they are able to build a reading center. When I was in college I was involved in a program to teach art to inner-city (Buffalo) students who didn't normally have art due to budget problems - I have seen firsthand what a difference time & compassion can make in a child's life!
Zoë and I took that show as a sort of wake-up call to remember our dreams of giving something back. I turned to Zoë and said "we should take a 'road trip' to Racine & paint a mural in their new reading center". Zoë simply said "it sounds like fun".
That brings me to where I am right now... Zoë and I would like to donate our time & talents to Julia Burney & the "Cops 'n Kids Reading Program". Please let us know what the next step might be or if they already have something else planned.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this & to your show for helping Zoë and I remember our vision.
Fondly,
Kristin Huber
